There are big changes ahead in Phuket and it looks very positive for the future. The airport is currently going through an expansion project which will see the airport able to handle 12 million visitors a year instead of the current 6 million. Air Asia have announced a new route to Shanghai which is certain to increase the number of Chinese tourists.
Next April we will see positive changes on our golf courses with major work taking place at Loch Palm and Laguna Golf. New greens at Loch Palm and new fairways at Laguna will cause a few short term problems in the low season but overall will be better for the future of our courses.
Big changes are also taking place as far as the hotels are concerned and there are some very interesting high quality projects taking place. In the main resort of Patong, two new 4 star properties have opened in the Andaman Embrace and the Holiday Inn Express. Perhaps more interesting for golfers is the new Outrigger Phuket Resort located in the upmarket resort of Laguna and the new Double Tree by Hilton in the resort of Surin Beach. Both these locations are very central in Phuket and are ideal for golfers. Further north, the Pullman Phuket Arcadia Hotel at Naithon Beach will open shortly which is a spectacular location on a headland with magnificent views of the Andaman Sea. Even though it is in the north of the island its only 10 minutes from the two Blue Canyon courses and Laguna GC. The Bundarika Villas on Layan Beach has recently closed down and will open as a new Anantara Resort which will be very high quality accomodation and only a few minutes north of the Laguna Resort and will be very interesting for golfers wanting a quiet and more romantic location.
Although the furthest point from the golf courses in the southern tip of Phuket the new Rawai Palm Beach Resort and the U Sunsuri Hotel are sure to be popular in the fastest growing resort in Phuket, Rawai Beach.
Overall, things are happening fast and the future of Phuket is looking bright!
